Beginning January 12th, students of the Cabell County Alternative Learning Center have the opportunity to immerse themselves in 4-H.   Led by counselor Shannon Drown, teacher Rhonda Wood and Cabell County 4-H extension agent Autumn Starcher, students will understand the ideas behind 4-H and all the benefits membership has to offer.  Ms. Starcher will bring collegiate 4-H students with her and plans to come twice a month.

4-H covers a wide range of topics to meet the needs and interests of a variety of students.  Club membership has many benefits including doing better in school, being more motivated to help people, feeling safe to investigate new activities, achieving self-esteem and developing strong friendships.

The Alternative School club is named the Rising Phoenix and is joining one of the largest programs which develop youth in the United States.  It involves over 6.5 million youth and focuses on citizenship, leadership and life skills.  Students learn these things by participating in service and projects.  We hope this will be a very positive experience for the Alternative School.
