Positive Police Visit

A Different Perspective
Curt NethercuttThe students of the Alternative School received a visit from Corporal Curt Nethercutt of the Huntington Police Department on November 16, 2017.  It was a positive visit, a different perspective.

Due to the reasons for their previous interactions with police, many students had a critical view of the police.  Nethercutt came to share from the life of a police officer.  He shared his history growing up in Huntington.  He shared his love of playing football.  He shared the tragedy of his injury prohibiting him from turning pro.  He shared about his wife and three children.  He shared his love of his job.  He shared a different perspective.

Corporal Nethercutt worked for the Drug Task Force for 12 years and during that time put 220 people in the penitentiary.  He worked SWAT for 10 years.  He has 5 people who write to him, thanking him for putting them in federal prison.  They are thanking him for saving their lives.

Nethercutt encouraged the students to play sports to develop a drive for something positive and good friends.  He encouraged them to find that thing they love and work hard.  He told them to go after what they want to be.

We are grateful for Corporal Nethercutt coming and sharing his experiences with the Alternative School.
