Wellness Snack Challenge

Wellness Snack Challenge
Fruit Pizza

The second Wellness Challenge of the year got students and staff involved in a fun-filled, appetizing afternoon.  Early in the week, teams were formed to find or create a healthy and tasty snack.  Mrs. Artrip let her creative side shine while guiding her students to create a winter wonderland featuring cheese stick snowmen, lots of vegetable scenery and even a lake of vegetable dip.  Mrs. Baker’s team created a colorful fruit pizza using an oat, banana and honey crust and a variety of flavorful fruit toppings.  Mrs. Broce’s team experimented with Greek yogurt and pudding to make a banana pudding with fresh bananas.  Mrs. Smith led her team in the creation of homemade granola bars with strawberry and pineapple.  Mr. Redman and Ms. Scott teamed up to create fruit popsicles using real fruit and Greek yogurt.  Mrs. Wood and her crew made fresh pineapple smoothies.  Students had the opportunity to experience many unique uses of real fruits and vegetables.  They voted for their favorite and the winners receive a period of fun activity in the gymnasium.  Most students seemed to really enjoy all the healthy selections.  Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Artrip tied for first place with their pineapple smoothies and vegetable winter wonderland.  This was truly health, wellness and fitness coming together at the Alternative School!
