Woody Williams Visits Alternative School

Hershel Woodrow "Woody" Williams Returns to Alternative School

Hershel Woodrow "Woody" Williams, a retiree of the United States Marine Corps, is the last living recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor from World War II.  The medal was earned for his heroic actions during the Battle of Iwo Jima.  He visits our students each year but is always hesitant to share his story.  He likes to brag on other heroic individuals.  Even when telling his story he says he accepted and wears the medal in honor of the two soldiers that lost their lives when protecting him on that fateful day in which he showed such heroics.  When asked what advice this admirable man would give our students, his words were simple.

"Learn all you can."
